Iris’ Chili (Bean Soup)

1lb Hamburger

1/2 onion, chopped

1/2 tsp. chili powder

1/2 c. brown sugar

1-2 cans of beans, your choice (pinto, kidney, pork and beans, black beans) Don’t drain.

1 15oz can of tomato sauce

1 c ketchup

Open a can or two of pinto, red, kidney, chili, pork-m-beans, black beans.  Sometimes I also add white beans for color. Don't drain the beans of liquid.

Put in large pan with a large can of tomato sauce and a cup of ketchup.  Warm slowly.

In the meantime brown hamburger and onions in a little olive oil.  Season this with salt and pepper and 1/2 t of
chili powder.  If your hamburger isn't lean you will want to drain the grease off.

Mix this in with the beans and add more salt and pepper and another 1/2 t of
chili powder.   Now add 1/2 cup of brown sugar to the mixture.  Bring to boil.  Then let simmer for 30 minutes.  (You can add more brown sugar if it isn't sweet enough). Sometimes I add more beans and ketchup so I have leftovers.  Top with cheese and serve with saltines.  Especially good on a cold winter night.
